Final Score
Monmouth 55 (6-6, 4-4 CAA)
#20/18 Stony Brook 47 (8-4, 5-3 CAA)

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Monmouth capped its regular season with a thrilling 55-47 victory over Stony Brook in a high-scoring Colonial Athletic Association matchup at LaValle Stadium on Saturday.

The Hawks, who improved to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the CAA, showcased their offensive firepower, while Stony Brook fell to 8-4 on the year and 5-3 in the league.

Derek Robertson led the way for Monmouth, completing 28 of 45 passes for a Monmouth single-game record 536 yards and three touchdowns. Robertson also had support from an efficient ground game as the Hawks combined for four rushing touchdowns, including two by Rodney Nelson and two by Sone Ntoh.

Monmouth started strong with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Robertson to Marcus Middleton on their opening drive. Tra Neal added a spark later in the first quarter with a 51-yard touchdown reception to give Monmouth a 14-10 lead. Neal also showed versatility in the fourth quarter, throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass to Jack Neri to seal the win.

Stony Brook stayed competitive throughout the game, capitalizing on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and consistent production from quarterback Tyler Knoop, who passed for 408 yards and three touchdowns. Dez Williams led all Stony Brook receivers with 134 yards and two touchdowns, while Roland Dempster added 95 rushing yards.

The second quarter saw Monmouth take control, highlighted by a 42-yard touchdown pass to Maxwell James and a 13-yard scoring run by Nelson. Ntoh added a 1-yard rushing touchdown before halftime to give the Hawks a 42-30 advantage.

Stony Brook fought back in the second half, closing the gap with a pair of touchdown passes. However, Monmouth responded every time. Nelson's 8-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and Neri's 40-yard score in the fourth provided crucial breathing room.

The Monmouth defense, led by Ryan Moran's 11 tackles, also stepped up when needed. Israel Clark-White recorded an interception, and the Hawks tallied four sacks, with Justin O'Bannon contributing two.

The victory showcased Monmouth's offensive depth, with standout performances from T.J. Speight, who had a career-high 151 receiving yards, and Josh Derry, who added 98 yards. Monmouth finished with a staggering 690 yards of total offense, averaging 9.3 yards per play.

Notes and Quotes
"Offensively we were just lights out all day long. That starts with Derek, as it usually does, he had a phenomenal game throwing the ball and all our receivers did as well. TJ Speight, Josh Derry, Tra Neal, Maxwell James and Jack Neri all stepped up and did a really good job on the day and you have to give them a ton of credit for that. I just was really happy with the way we were able to respond from an offensive standpoint putting up all those numbers and defensively we picked our spots where we held them to field goals, forced an interception or a turnover on downs in key spots."
Head Coach Kevin Callahan
