PHILADELPHIA – The Monmouth University women's rowing team had its Freshman 4+ crew win the program's first ever gold medal at the 54th running of the prestigious Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks clocked in at 14:32.671, 16 seconds faster than Penn's second-place boat, and stopped the Quakers from completing a sweep of first-place finishes in events they competed in. Monmouth finished ahead of teams from Drexel, St. Joseph's, Fordham, Carnegie Mellon, Lafayette, Pitt and La Salle in the race.

Monmouth had three boats in the Championship 4+ and had its "A" entry place 13th out of 48 competitors. In the Club Championship 8+, the Hawks' top finishing boat took 26th of 76 competitors.

"We continue to see the type of progress from this group that we are looking for from week to week. Every race day is an opportunity for people to step up. Our Freshman 4+ of Ashlyn White, Audréanne Gill, Juliette Freure, Ashlyn Fehr, and coxswain Audrey Copeland earned Monmouth's first ever event win at the Head of the Schuylkill.

This was the deepest field in recent memory at the Schuylkill, with 78 entries in the 4+ and 50 in the 8, and it was fantastic to see how we handled ourselves. Across the board we improved on last year's results. In addition to winning the Freshman 4+, we were able to place all three Varsity 4+ entries in the top half of a very tough field. The future is definitely bright for us!"
