BALTIMORE, MD-Â Monmouth University running back
Owen Wright (Bethesda, MD/Georgetown Prep) has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens shortly after the conclusion of the 2023 National Football League draft.
Â
Wright, a First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection last season, earned himself exposure to NFL teams after playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena, California. The running back led the Hawks with 16 rushing touchdowns and 17 total touchdowns as a graduate student last season, scoring at least once in 10 of Monmouth's 11 games. A member of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, he finished second on the team with 304 rushing yards and led all offensive players with five tackles on special teams.
"Honestly it's a surreal feeling," said Wright. "You work your whole life for this opportunity and now it pays off. I'll take tonight but tomorrow it is back to work. It is time to work even harder than I have before. Its huge to be playing for the Ravens. I played for Maplewood, the little league team started by Under Armour founder Kevin Plank (another Maryland native) so I feel like my football career has come full circle. I like the play style and identity of the Ravens, I feel like I am a good fit there."
Â
In two seasons with the Hawks, the Bethesda, MD native had 674 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns, appearing in 22 contests. He tied the Monmouth record for longest touchdown run in school history when he tore off a 99-yard scamper against Albany in the 2023 season. Wright finished his career 10
th in program history with 18 career rushing touchdowns.
Â
Wright, whose late grandfather was Washington Redskin great Brig Owens, worked out for a number of local NFL teams including the Ravens after putting up impressive numbers at both Monmouth's and Maryland's Pro Days.
Â
The Ravens are no stranger to signing Monmouth players as both quarterback Kenji Bahar and center Alex Thompson spent time in Baltimore.
