MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS IN CAA OPENER AT DELAWARE

NEWARK, DEL – Delaware jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed in an eventual 18-6 victory over the Monmouth University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
 
The first conference game for both teams and the debut for Monmouth as a member of the CAA saw the Hawks fall into an early hole to the defending CAA champs. Following Jonny MacLean's first-career goal to end the first quarter, Delaware pushed its advantage to 8-1 before MacLean scored again.

Buke Webb, Ty Caffarelli, Ryan O'Rourke and Cade Stratton added goals for the Hawks.

GAME NOTES
- Monmouth had its four-game winning streak snapped.
- Monmouth is now 0-6 all time against Delaware.
- The Blue and White dropped to 3-2 in road games this season.
- The Hawks wore their chrome helmets with midnight blue jerseys and gray shorts.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Jonny MacLean scored the first two goals of his career.
- Freshman Ty Caffarelli scored his 12th goal of the season. He has at least one goal in every game of his career and is tied for the team lead.
- Cade Stratton scored his 11th goal of the season and the 52nd goal of his career.
- Burke Webb scored his fourth goal of the season and has goals in consecutive games.
- Ryan O'Rouke scored the first goal of his freshman season.
- Cade Stratton, Connor Macrae, Luke Cole and Buke Webb each added assists. Cole leads the Hawks with nine assists this season.
- Matt Soutar went 15-for-28 at the faceoff X and equaled his own program record with 11 ground balls.
- Scooter Whiteside led the team with two caused turnovers.

NEXT UP
Monmouth will host nationally-ranked Villanova in a non-conference contest at Kessler Stadium next Saturday, March 18. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FloSports.
