WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's tennis team battled, sending a pair of singles matches to a third set, before ultimately falling to Stony Brook 5-2 on Saturday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.Â
Â
Stony Brook grabbed an early lead in the contest with wins at first and second doubles. Zoe Klapman and
Hana McKinney gave Kristi Boro and Mathilde Seeves all they could handle before being edged, 7-5.Â
Â
After losing the doubles point, the Hawks buckled down and made things interesting in singles play.
Lana Brezanin earned a hard fought 6-1, 6-3 victory over Debby Mastrodima at fourth singles. Zoe Klapman took down Sara Annamaria Medved at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2. Stony Brook earned the win at third and fifth singles and led the match 3-2.
Â
Both McKinney and
Ann Spurka took their matches to third sets before being tripped up. Spurka did a nice job to rally at first singles. She went down 7-5 before battling back for a 6-3 second set win and forced the match to a third set. Spurka left it all on the court before falling 6-3. McKinney took an early 6-3 lead at second singles before Joshi Chandrika was able to take the next two sets for the win.Â
