WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Men's Basketball got a career-best 22 points from
Myles Foster as well as 18 and nine rebounds from
Jack Collins, but Hampton University came away with the victory Saturday in West Long Branch, 83-66.
Â
Monmouth scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to 41-36, and after Hampton got it back to 14, MU did not give in, scoring 13 of the next 17 to make it a four-point game on a Foster score off glass. A 10-2 Pirates run made it 14 again and they held the Hawks off en route to the road win.
Â
MU worked for three and-one opportunities in the early stages, the first from Foster before two in a row from Collins. Following Collins' second three-point play, Foster netted a hook shot to tie the game at 14:38. Hampton used a 17-3 run to lead 31-17, but Monmouth clawed back to score 13 of the next 19 to trim it to 38-30. A late Hampton three sent them into the half with a 41-30 advantage.
