LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Monmouth women's lacrosse team fell to fourth-seeded Fairfield, 14-11, in the MAAC Tournament title game on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tightly-contested defensive battle as Monmouth (12-7) led by one, 9-8, at the half.
Hope Steuerwald scored her fourth goal of the game to extend the lead to two early in the third frame, but Fairfield (13-6) closed out the contest on a 7-2 run to secure the championship victory.
Steuerwald wrapped up her afternoon with a team-best five points on five goals.
Caroline Brennan logged a hat trick with three goals, while
Mary Kate George,
Ella Spears and
Danielle McNeely each tallied a score. McNeely added a pair of assists to her stat line for a three-point outing to go along with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Gina Verrone recorded three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Madi Bednarik made 11 saves in between the pipes for the Hawks.
