HAMDEN, Conn. – The Monmouth women's lacrosse team continued its winning ways after defeating Quinnipiac, 12-10, on Saturday in a MAAC road contest to close out the regular season.
Â
With the victory over the Bobcats (6-10, 2-6 MAAC), the Hawks (11-6, 6-2 MAAC) captured a share of the MAAC regular season title for the first time since the 2018 campaign.
Â
It was a one-goal game with less than 14 minutes left to play in the third quarter before
Caroline Brennan scored to spark a 3-1 Monmouth run that extended the Hawks lead to three, 11-8. Quinnipiac would put in two scores before the quarter came to a close, but Monmouth tallied one off a shot from
Carli Mangum.
Â
The Hawks went into the fourth leading 12-10 and that score held for the final 15 minutes of action as both sides were kept off the board.
Â
Hope Steuerwald led all scorers in the game with five points on five goals. The senior attack did most of her damage early as she scored all five of her goals in the first 21 minutes of play.
Caroline Brennan and
Danielle McNeely each recorded multi-goal outings as well with two goals apiece. McNeely added an assist for a three-point game.
Â
Defensively,
Brianna Falco was all over the field. She caused two turnovers, while leading the team with six ground balls to go along with five draw controls.
Cassidy Orban chipped in as well with five draws, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
