FAIRFIELD, CT – The Monmouth University women's tennis team earned a dramatic win over defending MAAC Champion Fairfield on Wednesday, 4-3.  
 
"We had great poise by both freshmen to pull out the win," said Monmouth head coach Patrice Murray. "We have been playing strong and consistent doubles. We felt confident as a team going into the day, and it felt great to break through with a win after some very close matches. Personally, this was one of the best team wins in my 36 years at Monmouth."
 
The Hawks won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 (Madison Mills and Lenien Jamir) and No. 3 (Sophia Fredriksson and Zoe Klapman).
 
Sophomore Ann Spurka earned a win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-6.
 
Freshman Madison Mills won in three sets at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
 
Freshman Lenien Jamir sealed the clutch win at No. 5 singles, winning 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (12-10).
 
Monmouth improves to 2-4 (1-1 MAAC) on the season, and will continue conference play on Sunday against Quinnipiac.
