WOMEN’S LACROSSE COMEBACK ATTEMPT FALLS SHORT AT SIENA, 13-12

LOUDONVILLE, NY- Monmouth University's (7-3, 7-3 MAAC) women' lacrosse team fell to Siena College (8-2, 7-2 MAAC) on Friday afternoon, snapping the Hawks five game win streak.

Down three with just over three minutes to play, the Hawks tallied back to back goals in the next 90 seconds to close to one with 1:27 left.  After Rachel Mills' first goal of the game cut the lead to 13-12, Siena won the draw and was able to keep the ball away from the Hawks.

Turnovers plagued the Hawks who never had the lead, with the Hawks committing 22 compared to just 12 for the Saints. The Hawks held a 16-11 advantage in draw controls but it was Siena who won the final three draws eliminating crucial scoring opportunities.

Siena opened up a 4-1 lead with 18 minutes left in the first half and had to play catch up the rest of the way. Three times Monmouth closed to within one only to find Siena answer and push the lead each time. With 3:24 to play Siena led 13-10 but Ally Turturro and Rachel Mills notched goals for the Hawks to set up the last chance effort.

Nicole Ceraso led the Hawks with seven points on three goals and four assists while junior Hope Steuerwald scored her first career hat trick. Caroline Bleck and Ally Turturro each scored two goals while Gina Verrone led the Hawks with eight draw controls. Siena had four goals apiece by Mary Soures and Nicole McNeely.

NOTES & QUOTES
"It was a tough battle against a very good, well coached team in Siena. We knew we needed to fight for a full 60 minutes and we played hard to the very end. Our staff is so proud of the effort, but we certainly need to correct a few things going into Fairfield on senior day and our playoff push. We are very close to being the team we know we are and the next few weeks will prove it."
– Monmouth Interim Head Coach Christie Kaestner
