WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University redshirt junior running back
Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) has been named to Walter Camp FCS All-American Team. Guerriero has now been named First Team All-America by every major publication, becoming the second Hawk (
Mike Basile) to earn consensus First Team All-American honors in program history.
Â
The running back, who led the NCAA in rushing, is one of four finalists for the Walter Payton Award – the Football Championship Subdivision's version of the Heisman Award. Guerriero finished with a school-record 1,995 yards rushing while adding another 336 yards receiving. He found the endzone 20 times in 2019, including 18 rushing touchdowns.
Â
Last month he was named as the running back of the year in the FCS and has been named First Team All-America by the AP, AFCA, HERO Sports and STATS FCS. Guerriero eclipsed the 100+ yard plateau nine times in 2019, including eclipsing 200+ yards four times. His 2,331 all-purpose yards led the Big South and was fourth in the NCAA while shattering the Monmouth record by over 600 yards. With a season left to play the Lyndhurst, NJ native has an impressive 20 100-yard rushing games, 3,974 rushing yards, over 4,800 all-purpose yards and 39 combined touchdowns.
Â
The Walter Payton Award winner will be announced on Friday night at the annual awards banquet in Frisco, Texas.
