NEWARK, NJ – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse built a 3-1 lead, but a run of six consecutive goals by NJIT made the difference in an 8-5 setback on Tuesday night at Sweeney Field.
Monmouth's early lead was supported by three
Griffin Figel assists as
Anthony Sardo,
J.D. Nozemack and
Brock Anderson each scored for the Hawks. Nozemack's goal came with one second left in the first quarter, before Anderson made it 3-1 with 12:30 to play in the second. From there, NJIT reeled off six consecutive goals surrounding halftime and took a 7-3 lead into the fourth.
Sardo's second and
Casey Kimmel's goal pulled Monmouth within two with three minutes to play, but a late NJIT goal sealed the victory for the home team.
