WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Head Football Coach
Kevin Callahan has announced the team's 2019 schedule, which includes non-conference tilts against Western Michigan University and The University of Montana along with a full Big South Conference slate.
Â
The Hawks will play at Kessler Stadium six times as part of the 12-game schedule. Season tickets are on sale now, with premium seats priced at $135 and reserved at $90. Single game tickets will be available in July.
Â
"After opening the season against Western Michigan, we will return home to face Lafayette (Patriot) and Albany (CAA), before travel to play Montana from the Big Sky Conference," said Monmouth Head Coach
Kevin Callahan. "It is an extremely demanding 12 game-schedule. In 2019, the Big South will be as competitive as it has ever been."
Â
The Hawks will open the 27
th season of Monmouth Football on August 31, with their first ever meeting with Western Michigan University of the Mid-American Conference. The game against the Broncos will be the fourth game against an FBS opponent and the third against an opponent in The Great Lakes State.
Â
For the second time in three years Monmouth will open up the home portion of the schedule against Lafayette on September 7. It will be the third straight season the Hawks and Leopards have met with MU taking the first two contests. A week later, former conference rival Albany makes its first appearance in West Long Branch since 2011. It will be the first opponent from the Colonial Athletic Association to play the Hawks at home since the 2012 season when Monmouth downed Rhode Island in week two.
Â
On September 21 the Hawks make their first trip to face perennial national contender University of Montana. The Hawks faced Montana State in the 2013 season opener but have never played at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The team's bye week comes following the trip out West before the Hawks face Wagner for the 26
th time. MU opens up league play with back to back home games against Presbyterian (10/12) and Gardner-Webb (10/19).
Â
Monmouth will look to win its third straight contest against Charleston Southern on October 26 before heading to Georgia to face two-time reigning Big South Champions Kennesaw State on the first Saturday in November. On November 9 the team will play its first contest against North Alabama – the newest member of the Big South Conference. A week later Monmouth heads to Campbell before wrapping up the regular season at home against Hampton on November 23.
Â
Monmouth returns eight starters on defense and six starters on offense after going 8-3 last season. A number of games will be featured on ESPN's digital channel offerings with that schedule to be announced during the summer.
