WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth University football junior
Pete Guerriero has been named to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) 2019 All-America team, the organization announced Thursday.
The seventh annual award recognizes the top student-athlete from FCS institutions at 11 different positions.
Guerriero, who was a First Team All-America selection by the Associated Press, led the NCAA in rushing with 1,995 yards. Guerriero ran for 18 touchdowns and finished his historic season with 20 total touchdowns is also a Finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given annually to the nation's top offensive player in the FCS. Guerriero had nine games with at least 100 yards on the ground and four 200+ yard performances, including a 220-yard outburst in Monmouth's first FCS playoff win over Holy Cross.
The Hawks won a program-record 11 games in 2019 as Guerriero climbed the all-time rushing ranks at Monmouth. He set the single-season rushing record and ranks second all-time in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, all-purpose yards and 100-yard rushing games. Guerriero will enter his senior season with a career average of 6.5 yards per carry, the most among Monmouth running backs with at least 200 career attempts.
The 2019 class includes athletes from 10 different institutions, representing seventh different conferences. Guerriero is the second Monmouth player to earn a spot on the prestigious team, joining
Mike Basile (2017).
