WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Monmouth University standout
Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) was named First Team All-American while redshirt junior
AJ Farris (Newark, DE/Eastern Christian Academy) earns third team honors by the Associated Press the organization announced on Tuesday.
Additionally, sophomores
Justin Szuba (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and Terrance Greene Jr (Philadelphia, PA/Saint Joseph's) were named to the HERO Sports Sophomore All-American teams.
Guerriero, a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, led the nation in rushing with 1,995 yards and 20 total touchdowns including 18 on the ground. He becomes just the second Hawk to earn first team honors by the AP along with
Mike Basile in 2017. The first team all-league honoree finished with 166.5 all-purpose yards which is fourth in the FCS in all-purpose yards. Guerriero set the Monmouth record for yards in a season and ranks second all-time in every other rushing category with one season remaining. He closed out the season with 200+ yards in four of his last seven games including a NCAA playoff win against Holy Cross.
Farris started all 14 games at center for the Blue & White, leading the way for one of the top offenses in the FCS. The Hawks rolled up 6,617 yards of total offense and 35.8 points per game while over 14 team and individual school records were written. For the first time in school history the Hawks had two players on the Walter Payton Award Watch List in Guerriero and quarterback
Kenji Bahar.
It marks just the third time in the 27-year history of the program that Monmouth has had two AP All-Americans in a season. With the addition of
John Gallina, three of Monmouth's five starters on the offensive linemen have now earned All-America honors.
Szuba earns his first All-America nod after starting all 14 games at right tackle. Earlier in the season he became Monmouth's second Academic All-America and currently holds a 4.0 Grade Point average.
Greene Jr was named HERO Sports Sophomore All-American after finishing second on the team in receptions and yards with 916 yards on 65 receptions. The Philadelphia native caught a team-high 10 touchdowns on the season and now has over 1,000 yards in just two seasons for the Blue & White.
