A LOOK AT THE GAME:

• Today is the fifth meeting all-time between the Owls and the Hawks, with Kennesaw State winning all four previous meetings. KSU comes into the game with a six-game winning streak while the Hawks have won four consecutive contests.
• The winner of today's game will remain as one of the two unbeaten teams in the conference, the other, Campbell (3-0) is facing North Alabama at 1:30 PM.
• Monmouth is coming off a 35-13 win over Charleston Southern and has the conference's top passer and nation's top running back in Kenji Bahar and Pete Guerriero, respectively. The Hawks and Owls have the top-two scoring defenses, total defenses and total offenses in the Big South. 
• Kennesaw State is one of two schools in the country ranked in the top five in both scoring offense and scoring defense. 
• The Hawks are looking to open the Big South season with four consecutive wins for the second time while Kennesaw State puts its 13-game conference unbeaten streak on the line.

THE COACHING MATCHUP:
Kevin Callahan is in his 27th season at Monmouth as the Hawks' head coach. Callahan owns a 158-123 career coaching record, all with Monmouth. Coming into the season, Callahan's 152 victories ranked him 8th among active coaches in the Football Championship Subdivision. He is one of three FCS coaches with 150+ wins all at one institution and his 26 years as a head coach is the seventh most among active coaches. The only coach in Monmouth history, he has led the Blue & White to five conference championships, in 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2006 and its first at-large playoff berth in 2017. Callahan has earned conference coach of the year accolades in 1998, 2003 and 2006 and was named as an Eddie Robinson Award finalist in 2017, finishing 10^th in the voting. Prior to arriving in West Long Branch, Callahan served as defensive coordinator at Colgate for eight seasons and at Wagner for three years. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Albany (1977-79) and Syracuse (1980) before becoming a Seahawk assistant in 1981.

Brian Bohannon was introduced as the first head coach in Kennesaw State history in March of 2013. In five years he has turned a brand new program in a nationally-ranked, championship winning team with a 44-13 record. A native of Griffin, Ga., Bohannon has 18 seasons of coaching experience at the FBS and FCS levels, all of which have come while working with Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson. Most recently Bohannon served as quarterbacks/B backs coach at Georgia Tech under Johnson. He has also coached at Navy and Georgia Southern. A four-year letter winner and standout as a wide receiver at Georgia, Bohannon started his coaching career at West Georgia before earning his first full-time position at Gardner-Webb (N.C.) as wide receivers coach in 1996.

MONMOUTH AGAINST THE BIG SOUTH
Since starting up Big South league play in 2014, Monmouth owns an 15-14 conference record, however is 11-2 since 2017.

• The Hawks own a 5-1 record against Gardner-Webb, 1-0 against Campbell, 4-2 against PC, 3-3 vs CSU and 0-4 vs Kennesaw State. The Hawks are also 2-0 against Hampton but those were non-conference contests. Monmouth has yet to face Northern Alabama.
• Monmouth has finished each of the last two seasons in second place in the Big South, and was selected second in the preseason poll.
• MU was 0-3 against members of the Big South prior to joining the league, including dropping a home and home series with Coastal Carolina and a non-conference tilt with the Flames.
• Today's game is the fourth conference tilt of the season for Monmouth, who are looking to win four straight to start Big South play for the second time in school history (2017).
  
  INSIDE THE MONMOUTH-KENNESAW STATE SERIES
• Today's game marks the fifth time that Kennesaw and Monmouth have met, with KSU winning all four of the previous matchups. The Hawks held a 14-7 lead in the second quarter but KSU scored 44 unanswered points - including pitching a shutout in the second half to win its second Big South title.
• The teams first met in 2015 down at Kennesaw. The Hawks struck first on a 12 yard Darren Ambush TD but KSU held Monmouth out of the endzone for the next 46+ minutes building a 23-7 lead in the process. Zach Welch had 112 yards on 16 carries in the contest for the Blue & White. KSU had 341 yards rushing with two 100+ yard rushers on the day.
  
  GUERRIERO EARNS BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  Pete Guerriero ran for a career-high 221 yards in Monmouth's 35-13 win at Charleston Southern on Saturday, earning him Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors. The junior averaged 10.0 yards per carry and scored his ninth touchdown in the last 10 games on a 42 yard run. He currently leads the Big South in rushing and rushing yards per game. His 1,022 yards through eight games is the ninth most in school history and is 39 yards away from his career high. On his final run of the night he became the second Hawk to surpass the 3,000-yard plateau. He is the second Monmouth player to earn Offensive Player of the Week in the last two weeks with Kenji Bahar taking home the honors last week. 
  
  BAHAR SETS MULTIPLE MONMOUTH PASSING RECORDS
  On his second pass of the night, a 36 yard touchdown to Terrance Greene Jr., Monmouth senior quarterback Kenji Bahar surpassed Brian Boland for the most passing yards in school history. A week before he became the MU leader in career pass attempts and on his eighth completion against CSU he set that career record as well. His 8,256 yards is more than any other Monmouth player and he needs just three touchdown passes to surge past Brian Boland on in that category.

  In the last three weeks Monmouth running back Pete Guerriero has scored on runs of 48, 65, 58 and 42 yards. Guerriero, who has 1,022 yards this season, is the only FCS running back to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau this season. In Saturday's win he had seven rushes of over 10 yards.
