WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's tennis team earned its first dual match win of the season on Saturday, coming from behind to take down St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-3. After winning the doubles point, the Hawks fell behind 3-2 and needed to win the final two singles matches. Senior Maria Ivanova lost her first set at No. 5, then won the next two 7-5 and 6-4. Sophomore Chinonye Gabriel also lost her first set and was down 3-0 in the tiebreaker, but battled back to eventually win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3. Freshman Nicole Gasser is now 2-0 in No. 2 singles play, downing St. Francis Brooklyn 6-2, 6-2. The Hawks improve to 1-1 on the season, and will face Sacred Heart and Delaware State later this week.
