PRINCETON, NJ- Princeton quarterback John Lovett accounted for 403 total yards and six touchdowns as the Tigers pulled away from Monmouth 51-9 on Saturday evening at Princeton Stadium.
Lovett, a Preseason All-American who missed all of last season, threw for 332 yards and five touchdowns, three of which went to Jesper Horsted. Horsted and Shane Carleson caught all but two receptions for the Tigers, finishing with 329 of PU's 332 yards. Lovett also ran for 71 yards, scoring on a seven-yard run in the first half.
Sophomore back
Pete Guerriero got things going on the first play from scrimmage with a 71-yard run that got the Hawks down to the Princeton 14 yard line. The Tiger defense tightened up and the Hawks had to settle for a 27-yard
Matt Mosquera (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) field goal to put the Hawks ahead 3-0. Princeton then scored on back to back drives, both touchdown passes by Lovett to take a 14-3 lead before the Hawks answered on a 37 yard touchdown strike from Bahar to
Vinny Grasso. MU attempted a two-point conversion but Bahar's pass was broken up and the led was cut to 14-9.
The Tigers converted their second fourth down of the game on their third drive, following that up with a 26-yard touchdown run by running back Charlie Volker that put the Tigers up 21-9. From there it was all Princeton, who scored on five of their next seven drives. The Hawks got into the Princeton redzone twice in the second half but could not come away with points.
