NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – In its first conference match of the season, the Monmouth University men's tennis team defeated Niagara on Satuday, 6-1. Earlier in the day, the Hawks fell to Buffalo, 4-0. In the win over the Purple Eagles, Monmouth took singles wins from No. 1 to No. 5. Junior
Nicola Pipoli earned the win at No. 1 by a score of 7-6, 6-1. At No. 2, junior
Srdjan Jakovljevic won 6-3, 6-0. The Hawks also won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (Pipoli/
Will Cooke Wharton) and No. 3 (Jakovljevic/
Sergio Martinez). Monmouth went a perfect 7-0 in the MAAC en route to the conference championship last season, and start the 2018 campaign off with the win. After matches against Wagner and Army, the Hawks will continue conference play against Siena on Saturday, April 14.
