Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO MARIST, 14-3

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-1 MAAC) fell to Marist (5-4, 1-0 MAAC) on Saturday by a final score of 14-3.

Marist controlled the final 40 minutes of play, using solid goaltending to keep the Hawks off the board. Monmouth's Allison Turturro's (Sound Beach, NY/Miller Place) goal with 10:14 left in the first half tied the defensive battle up at 3-3 but Red Fox Samantha Mehalik scored her second of four goals just three minutes later to regain the lead. Alexa Smith (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) appeared to tie the game up moments later but her goal was waived off due to a crease violation. From there on out it was all Red Foxes, who scored three more to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

The Red Foxes dominated the final 30 minutes of play, led by Galvin Delaney's 17 saves in net. Marist tallied three goals in the first five minutes of play to take a commanding 9-3 lead, which was too much for the Hawks to overcome. Monmouth had its chances but couldn't muster a goal on nine free position shots.

NOTES & QUOTES
"I'm really pleased with the effort the team showed for 60 minutes despite the situation we were in. It was 60 minutes of tough and gritty play and although the X's and O's weren't there we do have some positives to take away from this game and I know we can build some momentum from this experience."
