PHILADELPHIA- Drexel University (2-6, 0-0 CAA) used a 12 goal outburst in the second half to blow open what was a close game against Monmouth (2-7, 0-0 MAAC) and earn its second win of the season on Sunday in Philadelphia.
The teams battled to a 4-4 tie after the first 30 minutes of play, with the Hawks registering four goals from four different players. The start of the second half seemed to be headed for a similar pace with each team trading goals twice over the first five minutes. Drexel jumped out to a 9-7 lead on back to back goals from Jamie Schneidereith and Maggie Stetson before
Alexa Smith (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) tallied her second goal of the game to cut the lead back to one.
With 20:43 left in the game Alex Beilman started a run for the Dragons that included four unanswered and gave them a 13-8 lead.
Caroline Corbliss (Ellicott City, MD/Marriott's Ridge) stopped the bleeding with 14:23 left but back to back goals from Drexel's Delaney Cassidy put the game out of reach for the Hawks.Â
NOTES & QUOTES
"We are struggling to control the momentum in games. It is important that we start winning the 50/50 opportunities that dictate the tempo and emotion of the game."
– Head Coach Jordan Trautman
"With that said we are really looking forward to starting up MAAC play next weekend and getting a fresh start on the second and most important part of our season. I think the out of conference play has challenged us both physically and mentally and prepared us for the next set of games."
