PROVIDENCE, RI- Monmouth University (1-6) sophomore
Allison Turturro (Sound Beach, NY/Miller Place) tallied a career-high five goals but Brown University's (4-2) offense proved to be too much for the Hawks, as the Bears won a 20-10 contest on Saturday.
Brown used a seven straight goals- including four from senior Caroline Zaffino, over the first 13 minutes of the game to jump out to an 8-1 lead. Monmouth managed to score three out of the next four, including two from Turturro and sophomore
Megan Hart's (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) first collegiate marker but the Bears closed out the first half up 13-5.
The Hawks were able to score five goals in the second frame but couldn't keep pace with the potent Brown offense, eventually falling 20-10. Sophomore
Nicole Ceraso (Massapequa, NY/Plainedge) had four points on a goal and three assists, while senior
Alexa Smith (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) chipped in with a pair of goals. Zaffino finished with five goals and an assist while two other Bears had three goal afternoons.
NOTES & QUOTES
"Ally [Turturro] had a really good day, it was good to see her step up into a leadership role in the offensive end. We still need to find our identity and we need to be consistent in execution. This is the best Brown team that I've seen, it was humbling for us to go against what I think is one of top teams in the country. It's a good indication of where we need to be."Â
