LOCKING DOWN DEFENSIVELY
Monmouth allowed just 50 points to Iona, the best defensive showing of the season and lowest amount of points allowed by MU since last season in a 91-49 win over Fairfield on 1/19/17. The Hawks limited Iona to 24 points in the opening half, the best defensive opening half of the season, and held Iona to 32.8% from the field, the Gaels' lowest shooting percentage of the year. From distance, Iona shot 21.9%, the best three-point defense MU has exhibited this season.
WINNING WITH ONE DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORER
Monmouth topped Iona with just one double-digit scorer in
Louie Pillari, who finished with his second career 20+ point game in netting 21 points. The last time MU won a game with one player in double digits was 11/22/16, when
Justin Robinson's 19 points were the Hawks' lone double-figure output in a win over Cornell at home.
DOING IT TOGETHER
MU finished with seven players scoring six or more points against Iona, and seven players grabbing four or more rebounds. 10 of 11 Hawks who played in the game scored, while nine grabbed a rebound and seven had an assist on the night.
