WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team dropped its 2018 home opener to Delaware, 15-11, on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.

Monmouth scored first on a goal by Bryce Wasserman, before Delaware reeled off a run of six straight goals to end the opening quarter. Wasserman scored his second goal to end the run, but Delaware took an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The Blue Hens, who are receiving votes in the latest Maverik Men's Lacrosse Division I Media Poll, led by as many as 10 goals (14-4) early in the fourth quarter, before Monmouth trimmed the deficit with seven of the game's final eight goals. Zach Clemente scored a hat trick during the run, which included two assists and a goal by Dylan Schulte.

Charlie Kitchen led Delaware's offensive attack with four goals and two assists, while Will Hirschmann scored three goals for the Blue Hens.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Delaware played well today and we did not have our best stuff.  The effort was there but we lacked focus and execution all over the field and when you play good teams they capitalize on those mistakes. While we played really hard and picked up the pace in the second half to pull within striking distance late in the game, the hole we dug ourselves in the first half was just too deep to pull ourselves out of."
- Head Coach Brian Fisher

- The loss snapped Monmouth's six-game home winning streak.
- Monmouth is 2-1 all-time when wearing white helmets with white jerseys and shorts.
