MU TOPS SAINT PETER’S BEHIND SALNAVE’S 21 POINTS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth got a career-high 21 points from Ray Salnave (Elmont, NY/Benjamin N. Cardozo) in topping Saint Peter's 73-57 at the OceanFirst Bank Center Tuesday night. The Hawks held the Peacocks to just 18.5% from three in the 16-point win, including just 13% from deep in the second half.

The MU lead grew to as large as 17 multiple times in the second half, including twice off a Deion Hammond (Mitchellville, MD/Riverdale Baptist) three. SPU was able to get within nine at 5:21 on a Sam Idowu triple, but MU ripped off the next seven points, five of them coming from Salnave at the foul line. MU finished out 14-of-17 from the free throw line in the final period to secure the home victory.

The Hawks trailed by two with 4:56 to go in the half before consecutive threes from Pillari and Salnave forced a Saint Peter's timeout. The Blue and White scored three points on five consecutive possessions including those two threes, getting another Pillari triple sandwiched in between three-point plays from Diago Quinn (New York, NY/Lake Forest Academy) and Pierre Sarr (Dakar, Senegal/Roselle Catholic). MU ultimately scored on its final eight possessions of the first half to take a 14-point lead to the locker room.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I'm proud of my kids, we got a big win, then a tough loss and now we got another on the good side. Our kids have done a tremendous job of continuing to stick together and a tremendous job of playing every single night." – King Rice

"I think guys are understanding that if our defense can carry us we can usually score the ball enough to get wins… we had them at 40%, we'd like to have teams under 40% and then from three we'd like to have them under 30% and they're at 18% so tonight it really, really went well for us. For us to shoot 46% against John Dunne's team and 52% from three, that has never happened since I've been the coach here and we were able to just play the right way." – King Rice

"I think my teammates did a great job of hitting shots early on which gave me a chance to get going. It was me creating for myself and my teammates, and then my teammates creating for themselves and myself as well so it was a great team job tonight and they helped me out." – Ray Salnave
