LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Despite taking off four strokes from its opening round score with its 308, the Monmouth University men's golf team finds itself in fifth place after two rounds of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The Hawks enter the final round 12 shots behind Siena and within five shots of Saint Peter's which occupies second.
Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) duplicated his first round 76 to pace the team for the second straight day. The junior is ninth on the individual leaderboard with 152 and is trailed by freshman teammate Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury) who has 154 after his second round 76. The rookie is in a tie for 11th overall. Sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) and senior Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) both own 36-hole totals of 157 after shooting 81 and 75 respectively, while senior Jesse Hazam (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) compiled 176 over the two days.
ROUND 2 NOTES
- Kyle Burke recorded four birdies in the second round. Tommy Whelan registered three sub-par holes on his card, while Andy Stock had a pair of his own.
- Whelan posted an even 36 on the front nine.
- Stock is one-over at par-3 holes, good for third in the field. Whelan, Stock and Drake Ferriter are all one-under-par on par-5s.
- Stock and Whelan both have 20 even scores on their card.
