LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Junior Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) and sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) both inked opening-round 76s to lead the Monmouth University men's golf team to a 312 in the first round of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships, Friday afternoon. The Hawks sit three shots behind Siena which carded 309, while Rider, Saint Peter's and Iona all trail the Blue and White by a stroke.
Burke and Ferriter both scored one-over-par on the front nine before going three over on the back to finish the day four over and in a tie for fifth overall on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury) continued his strong play with a 78 followed by senior Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) who finished the day four shots behind Stock, while senior Jesse Hazam (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) turned in 86.

ROUND 1 NOTES
- Drake Ferriter was one of six golfers in the field to record two-under on the Par 5s. The sophomore recorded a team-best three birdies on the afternoon, while Kyle Burke and Andy Stock both sank two birdies each.
- Burke went even on the par 3 holes, while Ferriter and Stock both posted one-over par scores.
- Tommy Whelan, who started the day even through eight holes, recorded 11 par marks.
