MONMOUTH TAKES UCONN TO WIRE IN OVERTIME, FALL 84-81

HARTFORD, CT – Monmouth got a career-high 27 points from Micah Seaborn (Fort Worth, TX/Prime Prep Academy) in taking the University of Connecticut to the brink on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling in overtime at the XL Center. The Hawks rebounded from a seven-point second half deficit and trailed by as many as nine in the contest before forcing overtime.

Monmouth led by four in the extra session after a pair of Austin Tilghman (Wilmington, DE/Archbishop Carroll) foul shots but UConn went back in front with 32 seconds left on Jalen Adams' jumper. The Huskies were able to get a stop on Monmouth's ensuing trip and eventually hold on for the three-point win.

MU trailed by seven in the second half but battled back to tie at 59 when Louie Pillari (Tinton Falls, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) stepped into a triple from the wing. From that point on, MU led but never by more than four until the 1:02 mark, when Christian Vital's pair of free throws put UConn back on top. Zac Tillman (Yeadon, PA/Shipley School) finished on the other end to put the Hawks in front before Adams split a pair from the stripe to send the game to OT.

The Hawks took a 42-36 lead to the locker room on the power of Seaborn's 20 points in the opening period. Down 29-20, MU ripped off a 9-0 run to tie things on Seaborn's steal and finish. The Blue and White led for the final 1:56 of the opening half, at one point going up nine on a Seaborn take before Adams hit a long triple at the horn.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I thought it was a great college basketball game and I thought the officials did a great job. I know they just came off an overtime win and now they have another overtime win." – King Rice

"Sometimes when you're dealing with young teams everybody wants to be the guy. We have had a guy at our school the last four years that got a lot of publicity being the guy for scoring a lot of points. Now I have a lot of guys who want to be that guy. It's disappointing and it's a hard lesson to learn because when you have a team and a program as good as UConn and you're in a game with them, you can't turn into hero basketball players." – King Rice

-Seaborn's 27 was the most by a Hawk so far this season.
