FRESHMEN STARTING
Monmouth started two true freshmen on Wednesday at UNC Asheville, with
Deion Hammond and
Marcus McClary inserted into the starting five for the first time in their careers. The last time MU started two freshmen was on 12/6/15 at Niagara, with
Diago Quinn earning his only start of his first two years alongside then-redshirt freshman
Micah Seaborn. The last time two true freshmen started for Monmouth came in the 2014 MAAC Tournament against Rider, when Josh James and
Zac Tillman both started in their true freshmen seasons.
NINE IN THE STARTING FIVE
Nine Hawks have made starts through five games, the most Hawks to start in a game over the course of a season in two years.
King Rice has started four different lineups through five games, with
Diago Quinn the only Hawk to start all five contests to this point.
STRONG START FOR PAPAS
George Papas, a true freshmen, knocked home three three-pointers at UNC Asheville and tied for the team-high with six rebounds. Early in his career, he is second on the team in made threes with six.
MU VS. THE IVY LEAGUE
-Against current members of the Ivy League, Monmouth is 9-20.
-Penn is the first of three Ivy opponents Monmouth will see this season (Princeton, Yale).

King Rice is 4-3 against the Ivy, with two wins over Cornell and W's over Princeton and Penn.
MONMOUTH AGAINST PENN NOTES
-MU defeated Penn in a January 2015 non-conference game at The Palestra behind 17 points from Deon Jones.
-The only home opener
King Rice has lost at Monmouth came against Penn in 2013, another 17-point game for Jones.
