MONMOUTH HELD OFF BY #23 SETON HALL, 75-65

NEWARK, NJ – Freshman Deion Hammond (Mitchellville, MD/Riverdale Baptist School) led Monmouth with 17 points and Micah Seaborn (Fort Worth, TX/Prime Prep Academy) finished with 16 but the Hawks were held off by #23 Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon at the Prudential Center, 75-65. The loss is Monmouth's first of the season, while the Pirates move to 2-0 on opening weekend.

The closest Monmouth got in the second half was 10, the final margin. MU got it to within 15 several times in the period, and scored the final nine points of the game. Seton Hall held off the Hawks to getting within single digits, getting four double digit efforts on the afternoon.

Monmouth led by one nearing the midpoint of the first half, and Hammond's third consecutive triple cut the Seton Hall lead to one at 7:09. Out of the under-eight media timeout, Zac Tillman (Yeadon, PA/Shipley School) had a layup that would have cut it to two waved off after review on a shot clock violation, and Seton Hall followed with a 13-2 run. The Pirates eventually took a 16-point lead into the break.
