Callahan has earned conference coach of the year accolades in 1998, 2003 and 2006. Prior to arriving in West Long Branch, Callahan served as defensive coordinator at Colgate for eight seasons and at Wagner for three years. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Albany (1977-79) and Syracuse (1980) before becoming a Seahawk assistant in 1981.

MONMOUTH PARTICIPATES IN COACH TO CURE MD
College football coaches around the country, including Monmouth's Kevin Callahan and Bucknell's Joe Susan, will join to fight one opponent today – Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. By wearing a patch with the Coach to Cure MD insignia, coaches will show their support for Coach to Cure MD, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) charitable project. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood. Because the Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome, it primarily affects boys and occurs across all races and cultures. Visit parentprojectmd.org for more information.

BASILE IS NEW ALL-TIME LEADER IN TACKLES
  • Safety Mike Basile became the new Monmouth record holder for tackles with his fifth tackle against Bucknell last weekend
  • The tackle came in the second quarter on a run up the middle and gave Basile 354 tackles, the new Monmouth mark
  • Basile surpassed Aaron Edwards' record of 353 career tackles, which stood up for 16 years. Edwards, who also played safety, starred for the Hawks from 1997 to 2001
  • Edwards set the record in 43 career games while it took Basile just 38 to surpass the mark
  • Mike Basile's 6.19 solo tackles per game leads all-active players in the NCAA. He is currently second place all-time in Big South history for solo stops with 227. He needs 17 more to set the Big South record.
  • With his 11.3 tackles per game in 2017, he is on pace to become just the fourth Big South player with 400 career tackles (He currently has 356)
  • Basile has recorded double digit tackles in 18 of his 38 career games

HAWKS LOSE ONE OF THEIR OWN
The Monmouth University Football Family lost one of its own recently with the passing of former Hawks QB/Punter Rich Bargloski this week. Bargloski was a member of the Monmouth from 1993-1996, playing quarterback and punting. He has the distinction of being the first Monmouth quarterback, starting the inaugural game at Stonehill College in 1993. Bargloski still ranks top-five in a number of punting statistics.
