BALANCED ATTACK LEADS MEN'S BASKETBALL TO 87-62 WIN AT MARIST TUESDAY

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Five Hawks reached double-figures, led by 16 apiece from Micah Seaborn (Fort Worth, TX/Prime Prep Academy) and Justin Robinson (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston). Monmouth shot 50.8% in winning its sixth in a row for the first time since 2005, and move to 20-5, 12-2 in conference. The 20 wins is the most since the 2003-04 season, when MU won a program-record 21 games. Marist falls to 5-18, 2-12 in the league.

"Our guys started out really well on defense," said head coach King Rice. "Proud of our guys and happy for our program to get to 20 wins."

Monmouth opened up a 32-point lead, its largest of the season, with 10:02 remaining on a Collin Stewart (Glenville, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) wing three. Marist came back with five straight before Pierre Sarr (Dakar, Senegal/Roselle Catholic) drove and finished, and Je'lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep) buried a jumper to keep the lead at 28. Marist got it down to as low as 24 in the final minutes, but Daniel Pillari (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) stole one away after an inbounds and drove to the rim to push it back to 28, and MU would eventually win by 26.

Monmouth came out of the half on an 11-2 run, getting two buckets from Seaborn and a corner triple from Brady, his second three of the year to extend to a 56-36 lead. Back-to-back scores by Brian Parker cut it to 16 before MU ripped off 12 in a row, getting the last five of it from Robinson and a triple from Stewart in the process. That made it 68-40 with 11:59 to go, and Robinson and Stewart nailed consecutive threes to open the 32-point advantage.

MU didn't trail after the 17:22 mark of the opening half when Seaborn hit first of two early triples to put MU up 6-5. His second put the Hawks up 11-5, and Hornbeak knocked in a right corner long ball at 14:05 to push the Hawks out 16-10. Hornbeak hit his second three at 12:30 to make it 21-10, but Parker put one in and Khallid Hart hit a three to trim it to six. Hornbeak responded with his third from range, and the Hawks extended the lead to 14 on a Robinson steal at half court and finish with 7:50 to go.

Hornbeak netted his fourth three of the half with 5:52 to go, widening the gap to 15, Monmouth's largest lead of the half. Marist got within eight on two Kentrall Brooks foul shots, but Robinson netted a trey with 54 seconds left and Monmouth took a 45-31 lead into the break.

Seaborn and Robinson both scored 16 to lead the team with the latter adding in five assists and two steals. Seaborn was 6-12 from the floor with six rebounds and four assists. Hornbeak netted 14 on four triples, and Brady finished with 11 and nine boards. Stewart also got into double-figures with 10. Monmouth shot 50.8% from the floor, 40.7% from deep and 70% from the line. The Hawks held the Red Foxes to 33.3% shooting and 26.9% from downtown, with Hart scoring 22 and Parker netting 15. Brooks grabbed 12 rebounds.

MU is back on the floor Friday night for a 9:00 p.m. tip at Rider on ESPNU.
