HAWKS FALL TO LEHIGH 16-5 ON TUESDAY

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth freshman Bryce Wasserman (Southlake, Texas/Grapevine Faith) registered a goal and an assist, but the Hawks fell to visiting Lehigh University 16-5 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action.

In the contest, sophomore Jayson Bevacqua (South Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) recorded his first career point on an assist, while sophomore Hunter Rainis (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side) scored his first collegiate goal for the Hawks.

Senior Garrett Conaway (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), the MAAC and ECAC Division I Defensive Player of the Week, made nine saves in the first three quarters for the Blue & White, while sophomore Nick Hreshko (Warrington, Pa./La Salle College) made a pair of stops in the final stanza of action.

Lehigh (3-7), a preseason top-20 team, outshot Monmouth 39-26, while the nation's leader in points per game, Dan Taylor (4.11), led the Mountain Hawks with five goals and two assists.

Lehigh, which led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter, pushed its advantage to 9-0 with 8:31 left in the half, before the Hawks netted the next two scores to climb within 9-2 at the break. Wasserman tallied his team-leading 10th of the season to open the MU scoring, while Bevacqua found senior John Castellano (Eastchester, N.Y./Iona Prep/Curry College) for his second career goal for the Hawks with 47 seconds remaining in the half.

After Lehigh grabbed a 10-2 edge to open the second half, Monmouth scored two straight again to trim the deficit to 10-4 with 10:44 showing. Sophomore Kevin Murphy (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Penn Charter) notched his second of the year, while Wasserman found senior Zach Johannes (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) for his fifth of the year.

Rainis' unassisted goal with 10:44 remaining in the fourth made the score 13-5.

Monmouth (4-4) returns to action on Tuesday, March 31, when the Hawks travel to Lafayette for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Fisher Stadium.
