LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Backed by junior Brady Goodling's (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) opening round 77, the Monmouth University men's golf team sits in sixth place and nine strokes off the lead after the first 18-holes of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, held at Disney's Palm Course, a par-72.

Manhattan holds the team lead firing a 310 in the first round followed by Saint Peter's which totaled 315 on day one. Canisius landed in third with a 317, a stroke in front of both Siena and Fairfield which share fourth. The Blue and White, making its first trip to the MAAC Championship in its inaugural year in the league, totaled a 319, a shot better than Iona which claimed seventh. Rider (329) and Niagara (338) round-out the nine-team field.

Goodling, who sank a birdie on three holes while saving par on eight holes, leads Monmouth with his five-over, good for a share of fifth on the individual leaderboard. Corey Carrick (Howell, N.J./Howell), who also registered a trio of birdies on the afternoon, carded a 79 good for a piece of 14th, while Cody Gross (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) posted an 81. Kyle Deisher (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery Area) and Colin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass./Boston College H.S.) each a completed the opening round a stroke behind Gross with an 82, respectively .
