HAMBURG, N.J. – Battling winds between 15-25 miles per hour, including gusts up to 30 MPH, the Monmouth University men's golf team wrapped up play at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational, held at the par-71 Crystal Springs Country Club, in eighth place. The Hawks were paced by Brady Goodling (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Corey Carrick (Howell, N.J./Howell) who both completed the final round with an 81.
“With the MAAC Championships coming up in a week and a half, we need to see more consistency from our entire lineup if we are going to compete for a title in Disney,” stated Head Coach Dennis Shea.
Goodling, who opened up play with a 79 on Sunday, finished the two-day event tied for 23rd overall with a 160, three strokes in front of both Carrick (82-81) and Kyle Deisher (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery Area) [78-85] who ended the 36-hole tournament tied for 32nd. Cody Gross (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) fired a 79 on day two, 13 strokes better than his Sunday result, to finish with a 171, a shot better than Colin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass./Boston College H.S.) who carded a 172.
Binghamton's 612 earned it the team crown, edging the host Knights by six shots. Central Connecticut claimed third with a 625, a shot better than Towson which finished in fourth. Saint Peter's inked a 631 to place fifth, followed by Villanova and Hofstra which finished with a 634 and 642 good for sixth and seventh, respectively. The Hawks matched its first round score of 326 in the second round to total 652, five shots in front of Iona and seven strokes in front of Wagner. Manhattan (662), Delaware (670), Lafayette (677) and Saint Francis Brooklyn (686) rounded out the 14-team field.
Monmouth returns to the links on Thursday, April 17th when it welcomes Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan and Saint Peter's to Deal Country Club for the MU Invitational. Tee time from Deal, N.J. is slated for 1 p.m.
