MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS AT RUTGERS 20-4

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team fell to 0-4 in its first-ever season of competition following its 20-4 defeat at Rutgers University at High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday night.

Monmouth, which was outshot 55-26, got goals from four different Hawks, while freshman Nick Hreshko (Warrington, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) and junior Garrett Conaway (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty/Essex-Howard CC) combined for a season-high 17 saves in goal for the Blue & White.

"Rutgers came out of the gates fast and made some nice plays early on that, combined with some simple fundamental mistakes on our end, put is in a hole," said head coach Brian Fisher. "They are a very good team and certainly made us pay for those mistakes throughout the game."

Rutgers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter and pushed its lead to 8-0 with 12:24 left in the second, before freshman Kevin Murphy (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Penn Charter) netted an unassisted goal at 11:56.

The Scarlet Knights, who scored the next nine goals, held an 11-1 lead at the half, and took a 17-1 advantage with 3:14 left in the third quarter. Back-to-back unassisted goals from freshmen Tim Kemner (Woolwich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Eric Berger (Ardsley, Pa./Penn Charter) to end the third and open the fourth, got Monmouth within 17-3 before Tyler Keen's (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) tally with 3:06 remaining made the score 19-4.

Hreshko made 12 stops for the Hawks in the opening 30 minutes, while Conaway made five saves.

Fisher added, "With another game on the horizon, we will get back to work tomorrow and ready to play again on Tuesday at Monmouth Stadium."

Monmouth returns to action on Tuesday, March 11, when the Hawks host Bryant University at Monmouth Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
