MEN'S GOLF EARNS A SHARE OF FIFTH AT NEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Paced by sophomore Brady Goodling's (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) fourth place finish, the Monmouth University men's golf team earned a share of fifth place at the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships, Sunday afternoon at the par-72 LPGA International Legends Course.  The Hawks, who matched their highest finish at the championship event since 2008, shot a final round 312 to end the tournament in a deadlock with Bryant with a three-round score of 914.

Goodling landed in fourth place after shooting a third-round 76 despite windy conditions to finish with a 221 (68-77-76), giving the Blue and White a top-five finisher for the second-straight season.  Cody Gross (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) claimed a share of 19th overall with his 231 (80-74-77), three strokes in front of senior Ian Thimble (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston College H.S.) who carded an 84 in his final round to compile a weekend score of 234 (78-72-84).  Colin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass./Boston College H.S.) fired an 80 in the final 18-holes to finish one stroke behind Thimble with a 235 (74-81-80), while Corey Carrick (Howell, N.J./Howell)  rounded out the Hawks scorecard with a 243 (78-86-79) following a final round 79.

Saint Francis (Pa.) edged LIU Brooklyn by four strokes to claim the NEC Title with a total weekend score of 904 (297-301-306).  Fairleigh Dickson finished in third with a 909 (299-297-313), three strokes in front of Robert Morris which carded a 912 (293-304-315) over the three-rounds.  Central Connecticut State finished in seventh behind the Hawks and Bulldogs, registering a 915 (298-301-316), while preseason favorite Sacred Heart earned an eighth place result, posting a total score of 920 (309-300-311).  Defending champions Mount St. Mary's shot a 962 (316-327-319), while Wagner (320-329-317) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (323-333-342) tallied 966 and 998, respectively.

LIU Brooklyn's Josh Waters earned the individual crown, shooting two-under-par 214 (71-71-72) over the weekend.

Monmouth, which finished in the top-five in eight of its events this season, returns six athletes to the 2013-14 squad.
