2010 NEC MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. - The Monmouth University men's golf team is set to travel to ChampionsGate, Fla. this upcoming weekend, April 30 - May 2nd, for the 2010 NEC Men's Golf Championships held at the premier ChampionsGate Golf Club. The Hawks, who are in search of their first team championship since winning it all in 2006-07, will be heading to Florida for the second straight season.

Playing on the same course as the women did last weekend, the Hawks will be looking at a combination of veteran leadership and newcomer emergence to take them to their second title in team history. The Hawks sport an arsenal of solid golfers ranging from senior captain Michael McComb (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) all the way to freshman standouts Ian Thimble (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston College) and Luke DeSimone (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley).

Looking to lead the Hawks, as he has done in seven of the Blue and White's 11 tournaments this 2009-10 season, junior Greg Etimos (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) will be taking the course aiming to break into the top-ten and add to his three top-five/six top-ten finishes on the season. Thimble, who is currently second on the team in stroke average behind Etimos, will be taking the greens at his first career championship while fourth-year Hawk McComb, who finished third on the team in stroke average, will be looking to make an large impact in his last conference championship.

Sophomore Tom Gliozzo (Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), DeSimone, and junior Taylor Krug (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./St. Viator) will also be looking to lead MU to a championship title - after a two year hiatus - on the premier 18-hole championship golf course designed by accomplished architect and golfer, Greg Norman.

The conference championship is a three-day, 54-hole event. Team scores are calculated by adding the team's four lowest scores from each day. The top-10 finishers are named to the all-tournament team. All-NEC honorees will be determined after the tournament by the conference's head coaches.

Admission is free to the NEC Men's Golf Championships.
