BALTIMORE, Md.- Monmouth University's
women's lacrosse team stumbled to 0-4 on Wednesday after suffering a 11-6
setback to University of Maryland Baltimore County (4-3) in Baltimore.
Monmouth held an early 4-2 advantage with goals coming from
four different Hawks. UMBC used a 6-0
run to take an 8-4 lead, one which it would not relinquish in the game. Monmouth was kept in the game in part by
junior goaltender Kirby Mundorf (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keogh) who had a
career-high 16 saves, including 12 in the second half.
The Hawks had trouble containing Retriever attacker Erika Braerman, who
finished with five goals and two assists for seven points. Monmouth commanded a 11-5 advantage in draw
controls but was plagued by 25 turnovers in the contest. Both teams struggled from the eight-meter,
with MU going 0-5 and UMBC going 2-10 on the day.
Senior captain Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) had a pair of goals and
three assists to lead the Hawks, while four other players notched goals. MU was outshot 30-22 in the loss.
Monmouth will look to earn the season's first victory on Friday when they host LaSalle
University on Kessler Field. Game time
is set for 3 p.m.
