WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. ? The Monmouth University women's basketball team is proud to team with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority in a “Save Lids to Save Lives” College & University challenge against rival Robert Morris in a promotion to champion the fight against breast cancer. The promotions will be held during halftime of Monmouth's home games against St. John's this week Wenesday and Sacred Heart next Saturday. The first game this was featured was at the women's home game against Villanova on Sunday, November 18.
“I am proud that our women's basketball team had the opportunity to be involved with a cause like this,” said head coach Michele Baxter. “Something like this that affects so many women, especially women coaches, needs to be addressed, and it's good that we're promoting awareness on campus for women in general as well.”
The promotion continues this Wednesday, November 28 against the Red Storm at 7:00 p.m. The challenge is to collect more pink Yoplait? lids than Robert Morris, and for every lid saved, $.10 will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Zeta Tau Alpha has set up boxes outside the gym and throughout various buildings on campus so that employees, students, and local residents could participate and drop off their lids at any time.
In the spirit of promoting, Zeta Tau Alpha will be holding a yogurt eating contest during halftime for the person who can eat the most yogurt in two minutes. They will be giving out prizes to lucky fans during this basketball game and the games on November 28th against the Red Storm as well as December 8th against the Pioneers.
ZTA will also have tables set up weekly throughout November in the student center with education materials on breast cancer, pink ribbons, and Yoplait Yogurt to promote the challenge. Please stop by and show your support and remember to save your lids!
