PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After a three hour rain delay and multiple attempts at "sqiggying" the greens, the Monmouth University men's golf squad stood in 12th place out of 16 teams at the Rutgers University Invitational on Friday. Senior Andy Beittel (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) led the way by firing a 73, as the first day was reduced to 18 holes, instead of the originally scheduled 36.

Beittel, who finished second on the squad in stroke average a season ago, led the Blue and White with his 73, while junior Anthony Campanile (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) finished two strokes behind with a 75.

Senior Dave Marshall (Pitman, N.J./Glassboro) was the next Hawks' finisher, carding a 78, while sophomore Ryan Beck (Maple Glen, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) registered a 79. Sophomore Chanse Regier (Ripley, Ontario/Kincardine District) rounded out day one with an 85.

Monmouth, which carded a 305, stands in 12th place overall out of 16 teams. Villanova stands atop the leaderboard, recording a 288, while James Madison stands in second position with a 291.

The Rutgers Invitational final round will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 am.
