WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Monmouth University men's golf team took home ninth place overall at the Army Mulekicker Classic on Sunday afternoon with a score of 623. The Hawks, who carded a 316 on Saturday and a 307 on Sunday, were led by
Andy Beittel (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and
Anthony Campanile (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional).
Beittel and Campanile each carded a 77 on the first day of play, followed by a 72 and 75 score respectively on Sunday. Beittel's score of 149 paced him for a ninth place finish overall in the individual standings as Campanile t-18th to give Monmouth two top 20 finishers in an event featuring Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Fairfield, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Lafayette, LaSalle, Long Island, Rutgers and Saint Anslem.
Ryan Beck (Maple Glen, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham),
Dave Marshall (Pitman, N.J./Glassboro) and
T.J. McGovern (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) rounded out the Hawks' finishers in the event.
Beck and Marshall each recorded an 81 on Saturday, followed by a 79 and 81 respectively on Sunday. McGovern shot an 84 and 82 in the two-day event.
With a team score of 623, Monmouth finished only two points behind LaSalle and Saint Anslem who tied for 7th and three points behind 6th place Fairfield. Rutgers took home first place with a score of 592.
The Hawks stood tied for eighth place after Saturday's round of golf with a score of 316.
Monmouth returns to action on Sunday as they host the Monmouth Quad event with a tee time scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
