HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Three goals in a 10:02 span in the second half powered the No. 3 Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over No. 6 Stony Brook in the first round of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament on Thursday afternoon. 
 
The Hawks applied the pressure throughout the first half and out shot the Seawolves 10-1 but were unable to break through on the scoreboard. Ava Allen and Summer Reimet each had a pair of shots for the Hawks. 
 
Linn Beck fired off a shot on goal early in the second half, but Cassie Coster denied the Stony Brook opportunity. 
 
Monmouth got on the board in the 75th minute as Marisa Tava rifled a shot from the top of the box into the back of the net. 
 
The Hawks continued to pressure and in the 83rd minute, Liza Suydam was able to drop one into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage. 
 
Monmouth wasn't done yet as Chloe Messer found the back of the net in the 85th minute off a pair of solid passes from Suydam and Chloe Ferreira. 
 
The Hawks held their ground for the final five minutes and secured the 3-0 victory.

- Monmouth improved to 2-0 this season and 12-0 all-time against Stony Brook.  
- Monmouth secured its first CAA Tournament win with the victory.  
- The Hawks reached the 10-win mark on the season with the victory. Monmouth has now won 10 or more games in three straight years and 17 of the last 18 seasons.
- The win over Stony Brook gave Monmouth a postseason victory for the first time since 2021.
- Maria Tava scored her second goal of the year and it proved to be the game-winner.
- Liza Suydam, the CAA Rookie of the Year, scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year. 
- Chloe Messer scored her first career goal to cap the scoring. She is the third Hawk rookie to score a goal this season. 
- Cassie Coster's shutout was her CAA leading 11th shutout of the season and 20th of her Monmouth career. Coster moves into a tie for second in the nation for shutouts this season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth held a dominating 17-4 advantage in shots in the contest. The Hawks put seven shots on goal to Stony Brook's one. 
- The Hawks held a commanding 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the contest. 
- Cassie Coster finished with one save for Monmouth while Nicolette Pasquarella made four saves for the Seawolves. 
- Chloe Ferreira took a team-high three shots in the game.
