  • Both Albany and Monmouth are receiving votes in the STATS Top-25 Poll
  • Today's game will air on ESPN3 but can be heard on the Shore Sports Network with Matt Harmon (pxp) & Eddy Occhipinti

THE COACHING MATCHUP:
Kevin Callahan begins his 25th season at Monmouth as the Hawks' head coach. Callahan owns a 137-115 career coaching record, all with Monmouth. Coming into the season, Callahan's 137 victories ranks him 13th among active coaches in the Football Championship Subdivision. The only coach in Monmouth history, he has led the Blue & White to five conference championships, in 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Callahan has earned conference coach of the year accolades in 1998, 2003 and 2006. Prior to arriving in West Long Branch, Callahan served as defensive coordinator at Colgate for eight seasons and at Wagner for three years. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Albany (1977-79) and Syracuse (1980) before becoming a Seahawk assistant in 1981.

Greg Gattuso, entering his 4th year as Albany's head football coach, has guided the Great Danes to a 1-1 record this season. Last year Gattuso's Great Danes finished with a 7-4 record, including a 4-4 record in CAA play. The former Penn State defensive lineman was tabbed to usher Albany into a new era in 2014 after a three-year stint with Maryland. For 12 years he led Duquesne University, winning seven MAAC titles and the 2003 Mid-Major National Championship. Prior to his time at Maryland Gattuso was on the University of Pittsburgh's staff, serving as recruiting coordinator, defensive line coach and assistant head coach. The Pittsburgh native is a 1983 graduate of Penn State and helped lead the Nittany Lions to a national championship in 1982.

MONMOUTH AGAINST THE COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
  • Monmouth University is 3-12 all-time against members of the Colonial Athletic Association.
  • This is the first time since 2012 that Monmouth has faced a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
  • MU dominated Rhode Island in 2012 at home, 41-6 with Kyle Frazier throwing for 264 yards and three touchdowns.
  • The Blue & White notched their first win over the CAA in 2009 against Old Dominion,  with its most recent win coming over Villanova in 2011.
  • The Hawks picked up their first victory of 2011 at Villanova, in part due to a pair of goal line stands from the MU defense. Dan Sullivan led the Hawks with eight tackles, none bigger than the one he had early in the fourth to halt a Wildcat drive at the Monmouth one yard line.
GUERRIERO EARNS FCS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
  • Monmouth running back Pete Guerriero was named STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week after breaking the Monmouth all-purpose yard record in the Hawks' defeat of No. 19 Lehigh.
  • Guerriero made an immediate impact in Monmouth's win over Lehigh, setting up the first touchdown and sprinting 71 yards for a second score to put MU ahead 14-0 with 10:23 left in the first half.
  • The freshman spearheaded a rushing attack that amassed 361 yards and scored six touchdowns- tying a Monmouth team record.
  • When all was said and done he set the Monmouth record with 263 all-purpose yards, with 189 of those coming on the ground.
  • He was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, one week after taking home conference freshman of the week honors.
  • He is the second Hawk to earn national player of the week honors, Matt White won Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking the game-winning field goal in overtime to topple No. 22 Lehigh in 2015.
DID YOU KNOW?
Pete Guerriero's 189 rushing yards against Lehigh was the 10th most in a single game in Monmouth history. Former Hawk All-American Dave Sinisi has six of the other nine spots in the top-10, including the record of 247 on 32 carries in a 2008 game against Saint Francis.
