MEN’S SOCCER ADDS NINE TO 2017 RECRUITING CLASS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth University Men's Soccer Head Coach Robert McCourt has announced the addition of nine student-athletes for the 2017 season. Earlier this year, the team announced that goalkeeper Bobby Edwards and defender Henrique Joaquim had joined the Hawks, leading to a total of 11 new players for the upcoming season. In 13 seasons at Monmouth, McCourt has compiled a 150-61-49 (.671) record while leading the Hawks to five conference championships and nine regular season titles.

"I am very excited to add nine more student-athletes to the class of 2017," said McCourt. "This is a great group of young men who are all extremely talented players and fantastic students.  We have added a good balance of experienced players with exciting incoming freshmen. We also welcome back our extremely talented 2016 recruit Johnny Antunes who sat out last season due to injury.  This class adds talent and depth to every position. The quality of our schedule will once again see us play against some fantastic soccer programs where we will be challenged every game. I am excited to head into these battles with 2017 Monmouth Hawks!"

McCourt on Mrkulic:
"Anes is a striker with a knack for the goal. He has great movement and ideas without the ball, which create plenty of scoring opportunities. Anes also combines well with his teammates making it difficult for defenders to key in on him. He is a typical number 9 who can hold the ball up for teammates, but also makes crafty runs in behind defenses."

McCourt on Treiber:
"Jake plays primarily as a wide forward or wide midfield player.  He has a tireless work rate up and down the flanks and provides good service from wide positions.  Jake is playing summer soccer with the U23 NJ Barons. Doni has very crafty movement in and around the box, as the timing of his runs and movement off the ball result in a lot of scoring opportunities and goals. His year at Old Dominion combined with his experiences in Australia should provide a foundation for success here at Monmouth."
