EILEEN GHENT STEPS DOWN AS WOMEN’S LACROSSE COACH

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Eileen Ghent has stepped down as Monmouth University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach, to pursue personal obligations, Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil announced on Wednesday afternoon.

"I'd like to thank Eileen for her contributions over the last six years at Monmouth," said McNeil. "Thanks to her efforts as both an assistant and head coach, the program has a strong foundation for the future. We will begin a nation-wide search for her replacement immediately. The entire Monmouth University community wishes her well."

Ghent handed in her resignation after deciding to move out to Pittsburgh with her fiancé, former Monmouth Men's Basketball assistant Sam Ferry, who recently took a similar position with the University of Pittsburgh.

"I want to thank President Dimenna, the administration, and particularly Dr. McNeil for believing in me as a person and for supporting me throughout my coaching career at Monmouth," said Ghent.  "It has been an honor to work alongside the other coaches and administrators in the department. Monmouth is an incredible place led by an extraordinary Athletic Director and President and I'm grateful to have been a part of this community for the last 6 years."

Ghent was named as the fifth head coach in Monmouth lacrosse history on August 21, 2015 after serving four years on Denise Wescott's staff. In her first season she led Monmouth to its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship game, finishing with a 12-9 record. Ghent owned a 18-18 record as a head coach, with seven Hawks earning all-conference honors and 22 being named to the conference's academic honor roll. As an assistant from 2011 to 2015, she helped guide the Hawks to back to back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013.

Monmouth women's lacrosse will begin its 24th season next year. The Hawks have appeared in the MAAC Tournament every year since joining the league in 2014 and have earned four NCAA Tournament appearances since the 2006 season.
