WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth Baseball seniors Dan Shea (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) and Shaine Hughes (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) have been named to the All-MAAC Second Team, league officials announced Tuesday evening. It is the second year that they have earned a spot on an all-conference team.
Hughes led the Hawks in hitting at .359 this year, starting 47 of 48 games and hitting 14 doubles, most on the team. He hit a career high five home runs and was second in the league in hitting, as well as top-10 in the MAAC in hits, doubles, runs, total bases and on base percentage. Hughes slugged at a .519 clip and walked 20 times, stealing five bases.
Shea hit .293 with seven home runs, second on the team while also finishing second in runs batted in with 41. His 31 walks were second on the team and in the MAAC, while his .564 slugging percentage ranked third in the conference and first on the Hawks. Shea started 40 games in the outfield in his final campaign in the Blue and White.
Additionally, seven Hawks were named to the MAAC All-Academic team, with seniors Ryan Bailey, Ryan Crowley, Grant Lamberton and Brad Rhoads joining juniors Ryan Lillie and Pete Papcun and sophomore Kyle Ajjan.
