SOFTBALL SIGNS THREE TO NLI’S for 2018-19

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth University Head Softball Coach Shannon Salsburg has announced the addition of three student-athletes for the 2019 season. Lindsey Baron (St. John Vianney/Matawan, NJ), Antonia Browning (The Charter School of Wilmington/Newark, DE), and Danielle Dominik (Kingsway Regional/Woodwich, NJ) have all signed a National Letter of Intent to join Monmouth Softball ahead of next season.

"I am so excited to welcome our new class of Hawks," said Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg. "Lindsey, Antonia and Danielle are exceptional young ladies who will bring so much to our program both on and off the field.  I am thankful they decided to be a part of our future and excited to see each grow and develop throughout their four years with us."

Baron is the sister of current senior outfielder Katie Baron, and attended nearby St. John Vianney in Holmdel, NJ. She is 5'7" and can play in both the infield and outfield. Baron has been a varsity starter since freshman year, and batted .440 with 44 runs, 44 hits, and 30 RBI in her junior season. She earned 2017 First Team All-Shore honors, was the 2017 Division Player of the year, and secured 2017 First Team All-State. Her St. John Vianney teams have won three division championships, three Monmouth County championships, and a Shore Conference championship. Baron also earned the 2016 team Golden Glove award as well as the 2017 Team MVP honor.

"Lindsey is a special blend of speed and power.  She has played at an elite level and seems to thrive on the bigger stage.  Her aggressiveness on the base paths, and ability to hit for power and average will make her a tough out from the day she arrives.  Defensively, Lindsey has a canon of an arm and has the versatility to play in the middle infield or the outfield.  I am so happy to officially welcome Lindsey to our softball family!" – Salsburg on Baron

Browning is a 5'11" pitcher who has played varsity since 8th grade. After earning Second Team All-Catholic Conference honors in her first year, she elevated to First Team in her freshman and sophomore campaigns. Browning is also a member of the PA Chaos club team.

"I am thrilled to welcome Antonia to the team.  She is a right-handed pitcher who played against some of the best hitters in the country.  Antonia has a great presence on the mound and is known for her calm, cool demeanor.   She creates a lot of swings and misses and after watching her pitch, we simply knew we wanted her to join our family. It is so exciting to be able to officially say Antonia is a Hawk!" - Salsburg on Browning

Dominik comes to West Long Branch from Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich, NJ. She has 86 career hits in her first three years of high school, and her many honors include the All-South Jersey Player of the Year. Dominik also earned First Team Tri-County Conference in both her sophomore and junior seasons, and is tied for Kingsway's single-season record with 11 home runs. She has a career batting average of .455 in high school, and has registered 18 home runs and 25 doubles over the last three seasons.

"Danielle comes from a softball family.  Every time I talk to her, she is either on the way to hit or coming home from hitting.  Her work ethic and love of the game is almost as impressive as her sheer strength.  When Danielle hits the ball, the ball knows it.  I can't wait to watch her continue to grow and develop here and am thankful she decided to continue her softball journey with us!" – Salsburg on Dominik

Before the trio joins the Hawks for the 2019 season, Monmouth will announce its 2018 schedule next week.
