WOMEN’S SOCCER MOVES ON TO MAAC FINAL

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 3 (13-2-2)
Niagara 0 (9-8-2)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team took its next step in a quest for a fourth consecutive MAAC Championship with a 3-0 victory over #6 Niagara in the conference semifinal on Wednesday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

Monmouth closed a back-and-forth first half with the upper hand after Jesi Rossman (Phoenixville, PA / Phoenixville Area) pounced on a loose ball inside Niagara's six-yard box in the 43rd minute. The goal came off of a Madie Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May) corner kick that Maddison Perna (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Knolls) deflected to Rossman for the goal.

Less than a minute into the second half, Monmouth capitalized on a hand ball inside the penalty area. Sarina Jones (Sicklerville, NJ / Timber Creek) calmly slotted home the ensuing PK and Monmouth seized control at that point. Jess Johnson's (Howell, NJ / The Hun School) free kick was headed in by Lauren Karabin (Wall, NJ / Wall / Brookdale) in the 80th minute to put the game out of reach.

Amanda Knaub (Enola, PA / Trinity) finished the night with four saves, including deflecting a Niagara chance in the 23rd minute off the crossbar, to preserve the shutout.
